Not every kitchen remodel requires extensive demolition. Sometimes all your space needs is a cosmetic upgrade. Today we are sharing a kitchen design where we changed almost every surface to create a brand-new space while keeping the layout the same. Some upper cabinets were removed, and a vent hood was custom built, but generally this project is a prime example of what a dramatic transformation painting old cabinets and upgrading surface materials has on a kitchen.

The original cabinets were in great condition but in need of an upgrade, so we gave them a fresh coat of paint with Sherwin-Williams' Cityscape (SW7067). We selected five Sherwin-Williams paint colors in total to be the palette for this kitchen and dinette design. The wall color is Dutch Tile Blue (SW0031), the trim is Pure White (SW7005), and the ceiling is Passive (SW7064). For a strong contrast to frame the room, the crown molding was painted in Iron Ore (SW7069).
The custom counter top is a Cambria quartz solid surface. More durable than granite, Cambria quartz offers the beauty of natural stone with the high performance quality necessary for everyday life. No regular sealing needed, no staining, nonporous, harder than granite, chip and scratch resistant, and sustainably manufactured. This Seagrove colorway from Cambria's Coastal Collection has dark swirls and specks of silver designed to mimic the crashing waves of an English bay.
It's the intricate details that really elevate a design. We love to work with interesting tile combinations and hardware style for extra finesse in a given space. The main tile in this backsplash is Continent, a glazed porcelain tile by Florida Tile, in the colorway Delta Haze. The vertical accent pieces are an Envision Micro Brick in Castle Grey outlined with a metal trim. For the grout, we selected a gray grout that never needs to be sealed, is completely stain resistant, and anti-microbial. It's the tiniest of details from the color of the grout to the small metal accents that tie the whole look together.
The new commercial-style Kitchen-Aid stove and refrigerator are not only exceptional kitchen appliances but look stunning too. The 48-inch stainless steel 6 burner range with griddle and double convection ovens is the gourmet cooking center piece of the kitchen. We also had the vent hood custom made to best compliment the design. The built-in 42-inch stainless steel French door refrigerator includes a platinum interior and soft-close drawers.
For exceptional durability and easy maintenance, we installed Mannington's Adura luxury vinyl tile. The color variation of the Cascade tile in the Horizon colorway perfectly compliments the blue gray color scheme. Mannington's patented embossing technology gives Cascade a realistic travertine stone surface. A pewter colored grout also accents the tiles.
A dinette/breakfast nook is attached to the kitchen. For this space, we continued the same flooring and paint colors and accessorized with upholstered furniture, bright floral, and custom window valances. We designed and custom built the valances for the dinette (and a matching one for above the kitchen sink) with Duralee #42476-159 in Dove. For the accent band, we chose Fabricut's Monarch Satin in Pewter.
We used the same Cambria quartz from the kitchen for the buffet counter in the dinette. We also made a matching trivet!
Every element of this kitchen design was thoughtfully selected to coordinate perfectly, compliment the style of the home, and the vision of our client.
